Home Alpaca information Our alpacas

Our focus with breeding is white and black suris.

To reach our goal we bought the best white suri females we could find. We select our yearly matings based on the traits of the female, results with previous matings/cria (baby alpaca)  and the traits we think are most important like lustre, density and lock structure. Other traits that we think are important are: Fineness andfibre length.

With black suris it is a different story. The quality of coloured and specifically black fleece is far less nice than the white. As mentioned, there are not many coloured suri alpacas anyway.

We have bought a group of black suri females, a black huacaya and some fawn and brown huacayas. All these animals need improvement in all aspects, and there is not a lot of choice in males. We have this year mated all our coloured females to a homozygous black suri male. He has all good traits we are looking for but lacks fineness.

Hopefully we will have a some black suri females from these matings next year and can mate those to a beautiful dark fawn male we have bought recently. He will arrive here early 2010, and has from both sides black genetics, as well as fineness!   He will be featured on our website soon. It is obvious we are doing long term planning when it comes to black breeding!
